“Under certain circumstances, the FBI has the ability to bend or suspend the law and impinge on freedoms of others.”

March 30, 2012

I have spent a large portion of my blogging career criticizing abuses of authority. More specifically I have gone after various police departments across the nation for their unchecked aggression and brutality towards the public.

Evidence of gross police brutality and general misconduct is exploding across the nation. My articles Rampant Police Misconduct Police gone wild and New York cops behaving badly are all about horrific displays of violence and oppression at the hands of the authorities.

These abuses of authority are not isolated to a handful of municipal police forces. The FBI is getting in on the action. Good old fashioned racism and totalitarianism is alive and well at The Bureau.

Wired has obtained a letter sent to FBI director, Robert Mueller from Senate Judiciary Committee member, Dick Durbin. In the letter Senator Durbin is very critical of the FBI.

Posted below is  a short excerpt from Durbin’s correspondence to Mueller.

Bill Maher once said “Denying racism is the new racism.” It looks like the FBI can’t be bothered to deny anything. Their racism is right up in our faces.

More disturbing that the FBI’s membership in the good old boy network is their blatant disregard for the U.S. constitution. According to FBI training materials “Under certain circumstances, the FBI has the ability to bend or suspend the law to impinge on the freedom of others.”

I would like to know what circumstances warrant breaking the law.

A recent article from The Guardian sights FBI spokesman Christopher Allen.

FBI spokesman Christopher Allen said that the FBI review of its training materials, which began last September, had in fact shown that the vast majority adhered to FBI standards.

The article goes on to state

Last week the FBI publicized a three-page document, produced by a panel of experts, on the principles to be used in agency training. It is called “FBI’s Guiding Principles: Touchstone Document on Training” and explicitly states all actions carried out by the FBI must be constitutional.

If all actions carried out by the FBI must be constitutional then why does the FBI train agents to bend or suspend the law to impinge on the freedom of others?

My father is a retired Army Major and he once told me “If I had a problem with one of my men it was always a training problem.” Right now the FBI has a training problem and Senator Durbin insists that the FBI needs to retrain it’s agents.

I urge all of my readers to contact the FBI and to let them know how you feel about this outrage.

Police State

March 26, 2012

In their day the Stasi and Gestapo were the most feared secret police. The people that they presided over did not have a constitution. At any time the police could surveil and detain them.

In America we used to have protection from unreasonable search and seizure via the 4th Amendment.  Unfortunately that protection no longer applies. Over the last ten years we have become a police state.

I have come out against the NYPD and other police agencies due to their abuse of authority. In my article NYPD Public Enemy #1I stated “The amount of surveillance in NYC is astounding.  A person could walk from one end of  City to the other and never be off camera. According to the MSNBC report Day of Destruction Decade of War “Privacy guidelines don’t allow the cops to look into individual apartments, but with the technology they have it is possible.”  Personally I don’t trust the NYPD or any other police force with this kind of surveillance technology.  The NYPD can’t even be trusted with pepper spray let alone surveillance helicopters.  The report goes on to describe the NYPDs $100 million dollar command center that monitors over 1700 cameras. The Police supposedly erase data after 30 days according to privacy guidelines.”

Recently it has come to light that the NYPD has been spying on innocent Muslims who’s only crime is their ethnicity. The Huffington Post released an article detailing this affront to our constitutional  rights. Posted below is a short excerpt from that article.

Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the NYPD has become one of the nation’s most aggressive domestic intelligence agencies. A secret squad known as the Demographics Unit deployed plainclothes officers, typically of Arab descent, into Muslim neighborhoods to photograph mosques and catalog everywhere Muslims congregate, including restaurants, grocery stores, Internet cafes and travel agencies. The officers eavesdropped inside businesses and filed daily reports on the ethnicity of the owner and clientele and what they overheard. The program was not based on allegations of criminal activity and did not stop at the city line.

Police also infiltrated Muslim student organizations and monitored the websites of Muslim student groups. Officers included names of students and professors in police files, even when there were no allegations of criminal wrongdoing. Some of the city’s Muslim allies, those who stood beside Mayor Michael Bloomberg and decried terrorism, were being monitored by the NYPD.

Where is the public outrage? I know that if African Americans or Latinos were being monitored in violation of their constitutional rights the people would demand an explanation. Unfortunately it has become socially acceptable to persecute Muslims in this nation, which amounts to an erosion of the civil rights movement.

Muslims aren’t the only group under the illegal scrutiny of the NYPD. I have recently discovered that liberals and other political activists are also under the watchful eye of the NYPD and the DHS. I take this very personally as I am a member of a group of people who are being persecuted by the authorities.

A CBS news article details how the NYPD is monitoring peaceful protesters and even journalists with no evidence of criminal activity.

Before the terrorist attacks of September 2001, infiltrating political groups was one of the most tightly controlled powers the NYPD could use. Such investigations were restricted by a longstanding court order in a lawsuit over the NYPD’s spying on protest groups in the 1960s.

After the attacks, Cohen told a federal judge that, to keep the city safe, police must be allowed to open investigations before there’s evidence of a crime. A federal judge agreed and relaxed the rules.

In addition the Associated Press has released an official NYPD document which confirms the NYPD’s illegal scrutiny of U.S. citizens.

That document is available here.

In fact the NYPD’s activities are so egregious that the AP has an ongoing investigation in an effort to uncover wrongdoing.

Everybody out there should be gravely concerned about this. The authorities will not stop at investigating Muslims and liberals. Eventually everyone will be a suspect and we will all live in a state of constant fear and paranoia.

Martin Niemöller said it best when he said

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out —
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.

Spy Vs You

March 12, 2012

A lot of people say “I have nothing to hide.” When people tell me that I like to stare at them until they become uncomfortable. The point being if you have nothing to hide then you shouldn’t have a problem with me staring at you all the time. Having said that I am deeply disturbed by all the government surveillance that is going on.

In my post Surveillance costs money I said “In accordance with the 4th amendment, all searches to include electronic surveillance should only be used in the case of probable cause, or a reasonable suspicion that a crime is being committed.”

The FBI, CIA, and the DHS are all looking to expand their domestic spying programs.

The FBI released a request for a social media monitoring application that can spy on citizens via their social media content.  According to zdnet.com “The FBI is looking to monitor all public information posted on social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. The organization is asking for an app to do all the scraping automatically.”

The CIA is also getting in on the action.  The agencies Open Source Center in McLean,Va is full of so called vengeful librarians who have nothing better to do then spend their days pouring over your social media content. According to the center’s director, Doug Naquin “The center already had predicted that social media in places like Egypt could be a game-changer and a threat to the regime.”

The DHS is no stranger to spying on innocent citizens.  EPIC (Electronic Privacy Information Centre) has filed a Freedom of information Act lawsuit against the DHS for monitoring social media websites. According to The Daily Mail

The Department of Homeland Security makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for ‘sensitive’ words – and tracking people who use them.

Simply using a word or phrase from the DHS’s ‘watch’ list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it.

The words which attract attention range from ones seemingly related to diseases or bioweapons such as ‘human to animal’ and ‘outbreak’ to other, more obscure words such as ‘drill’ and ‘strain’.

The DHS also watches for words such as ‘illegal immigrant’.

In addition the DHS released a Federal Register notice detailing their plans to spy on US citizens.  According to the notice

In accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, the Department of
Homeland Security is giving notice that it proposes to establish a new
Department of Homeland Security system of records titled, “Department
of Homeland Security Office of Operations Coordination and Planning–
004 Publicly Available Social Media Monitoring and Situational
Awareness Initiative System of Records.” The Office of Operations
Coordination and Planning (OPS) National Operations Center (NOC), has
launched and leads the Publicly Available Social Media Monitoring and
Situational Awareness (Initiative) to assist the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) and its components involved in fulfilling OPS statutory
responsibility to provide situational awareness.

The country I grew up in is over. We used to stand for freedom and human rights. Now we are just like those we once criticized. Our nation employs agencies reminiscent of the Stasi. In fact the DHS had hired Ex-Stasi Spy Chief, Markus Wolf who worked for them up until his death in 2006.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

More money more problems?!?

March 6, 2012

It looks like Wall Street workers are starting to feel the financial pain the rest of us have suffered for years.

In a recent Bloomberg article Peter Schiff‘s brother Andrew said “The New York that I wanted to have is still just beyond my reach.”  Of course he’s complaining about money.  According to the article he’s just not earning enough.

the $350,000 he earns, enough to put him in the country’s top 1 percent by income, doesn’t cover his family’s private-school tuition, a Kent, Connecticut, summer rental and the upgrade they would like from their 1,200-square- foot Brooklyn duplex.

In the same article Alan Dlugash went on record saying “People who don’t have money don’t understand the stress.” Earlier this year my girlfriend and I had to sell her possessions in order to buy food so I certainly understand the stress. Alan went on to say “Could you imagine what it’s like to say I got three kids in private school, I have to think about pulling them out? How do you do that?”

I’m calling Alan out.  Mr. Dlugash is officially a pussy. People are starving out there and no one cares about your petty financial problems.

I don’t have any sympathy for Schiff or Dlugash. If you can’t make it on 350 grand a year then you suck.  I say oh well tough luck buddy.  I recommend that Schiff and Dlugash simplify their life.  Maybe they can do without one less speed boat or sports car. Maybe just maybe they can give up their summer homes and their $1,000 bar tabs.

In my article Pigs we get what pigs deserve I said “Not even the bankers themselves are immune to their own financial terrorism.  Like madmen with bombs strapped to their chests, they blew up the economy.  It was only a matter of time before they fell victim to their own greed and corruption. I would like to tell all of the recently canned bankers to suck it up and get a McDonald’s application.  This is your comeuppance deal with it.”
